Project Brick & Wink

Cavity insulation with Insute 25-pro

The energy-efficient refurbishment of existing buildings often presents major challenges—especially when distinctive architectural features such as a valuable clinker brick façade are to be preserved. Conventional refurbishment solutions, such as external thermal insulation composite systems, usually involve extensive intervention in the building structure and often result in characteristic façade elements being covered or even removed. However, there is another way: core insulation with Insute 25-pro opens up new possibilities for effectively insulating cavity wall constructions with very narrow gaps—without any loss of the original façade.

The following project report, based on the example of a modernized clinker house, shows how the owners benefited from significantly improved living comfort and energy savings thanks to blow-in insulation with Insute 25-pro. Particularly noteworthy: the structural measures remained minimally invasive and the construction time was short—the clinker façade was completely preserved. In the interview, homeowner Mr. Sergel describes his motivations, experiences, and the noticeably improved indoor climate after the refurbishment. His statements provide direct insight into the advantages of cavity insulation with our high-performance material.

SUMTEQ: What was the main reason you decided on cavity insulation with Insute 25-pro?

Mr. Sergel: For us, the façade was the decisive factor. We have a very beautiful clinker brick wall that we definitely wanted to preserve. An external insulation system would have meant tearing everything down or covering it up—that was not an option for us. Since we only have a very narrow cavity of two to three centimeters, Insute 25-pro was really the only sensible solution

SUMTEQ: What expectations did you have beforehand, and were they met?

Mr. Sergel: Absolutely. In the past, we had to start heating early even at mild temperatures, and the heat would disappear overnight. Now we heat much later and significantly less. Sometimes the wood stove alone is sufficient. The house heats up faster and retains the warmth much longer. Overall, the indoor climate is much more comfortable.

SUMTEQ: How did you first become aware of the material?

Mr. Sergel: Through our energy consultant. He initially recommended a conventional external insulation system, but the costs were extremely high. And we really wanted to keep the clinker façade. Then he suggested Insute 25-pro, and it turned out to be a perfect fit.

SUMTEQ: What were the decisive criteria for choosing Insute 25-pro?

Mr. Sergel: Clearly, the low installation thickness. Our cavity is so narrow that there are hardly any materials that work at all. In addition, the strong insulation performance—I would never have thought that two to three centimeters could make such a difference. On top of that, the installation was fast and required no major construction work. No scaffolding, no weeks of disruption.

SUMTEQ: And how did the collaboration with the installation company go?

Mr. Sergel: Very well. Service, coordination, and the work on site—all of it went smoothly.

SUMTEQ: If you had to describe the effect of the insulation today, what has changed the most?

Mr. Sergel: The key point is that the house retains the heat. We come home, light the stove, and the room warms up much faster. The difference is really significant.

SUMTEQ: Finally, how satisfied are you overall with the cavity insulation and the material?

Mr. Sergel: Very satisfied. It exceeded our expectations.

SUMTEQ: Would you recommend Insute 25-pro?

Mr. Sergel: Yes, definitely. Anyone with a cavity wall construction and a narrow cavity should take a look at it. Compared to an external insulation system, the cost factor is low, the installation is quick, and the effect is clearly noticeable. I would do it again anytime.
